If in the rare event that you, someone you invite or a pet are responsible for damage to the holiday property, you should let the owner know straight away. You should contact them via the phone number they have left at the property or on the check-in email or reach out via the messaging system on your Search and Stay guest account. If you can, try to take photos of the damage. Hopefully, with open communication you can both can come to an agreed value to cover the cost of the damage etc. if required.. The owner may put a hold on return of your bond while these discussions are happening. They can hold your bond off for up to 14 days after your stay.
On the other hand, once you have left the property, and if the owner believes that you are responsible for damage, missing items, or unexpected cleaning costs, they can opt to 'hold the bond'. This action will prevent the automatic return of the bond and will hold the bond off for 14 days. The owner will use this time to discuss the damage with the you and if needed to get written quotes to repair the damage etc.
It is always better to be upfront about any damage as this will enable the owner to fix the damage before the next guest and also help you two to find a swift resolution.
